Dear blog friends - how wonderful to know that I have friends stopping by to see what is happening in my life; however, most of what happens in my life revolves around my family and my friends. Well, right now, I have a friend who needs me. You see, my friend Teresa has recently found out she has kidney cancer. Her left kidney will be removed in the morning. Now, this is one tough cookie - she battled (and won!) breast cancer 14 years ago. I told you she was TOUGH!! Let me also mention that she is my youngest son's Sunday school teacher. She has no choice but to be a strong woman! He crawled into her hospital bed on Saturday with a picture of the two of them holding hands. So, my family loves Teresa. Please keep her (and I know for some of you that she is a total stranger) in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow.

Also, as Mother's Day approaches, other blog friends of hers will be having a blog raffle on a blog they've set up - what cool friends you can make in the world of blogging!

I've never been that fond of them really, at least the taste of those familiar little Valentine candies. I do, however, find myself quite intrigued with the sayings they come up with from year to year. Who really comes up with those phrases anyway? Well, I have an entirely different take on those pastel hearts - in the form of jewelry, of course!

For the gal who has everything and realizes that flowers will not last forever, I introduce to you my conversation heart necklace...
What a cutie, huh? Now, I went with "be mine", as that is one of my all-time favorite conversation heart phrases; however, you could even consider a name or a date of importance. The necklace consists of a heart soldered to a 1/2" disc, a red coral rondelle dangle and a tag that is stamped and slightly hammered around the edges ($45 on either a 16" or 18" chain.) Ladies...put that bug in your Valentine's ear, as the big day is just around the corner!

I have to say I'm loving this bracelet! I love it because it is perfectly classic. Who doesn't love a sterling beaded bracelet? Okay, maybe you don't; however, I'm not really expecting you to answer that rhetorical question. The nice thing about this bracelet, really one of many nice things, is that you can basically add any charm to it you'd like. I've shown it here with the original monogram (yet another classic element); however, we can add discs with children's or grandchildren's names, too! The bracelet is made completely by me with sterling beading chain, 6mm sterling seamless beads and a hefty lobster clasp. It is truly fantastic! Now, I know those of you that already have the monogram earrings or the monogram necklace are really itching to get one of these. And those of you that don't...what is the hold up? Well gang, I've reached 300 fans on facebook. This seems like a great reason to celebrate to me! It is funny, I still blame my old boss for getting me involved in this facebook thing; however, I find myself needing to thank him now. I've reconnected with so many old friends, stay connected with new ones and expand my little business at the very same time. How cool is that?! So, I'm thanking him (not that he'll want this necklace) and all of my facebook friends who support me by giving away a 1" sterling washer necklace stamped with a phrase of the winner's choice. on loosing a tooth

Well, it happened. And if I weren't so slack in posting to my blog, you would have known that the first tooth came out a week ago. Of course, it happened at school. I was the unsuspecting mom in the car rider line when Walker comes up holding a little white plastic container shaped like a tooth and grinning a grin minus something he had in his mouth when I had dropped him off that very morning. He was grinning - I was crying. Apparently, it is "cool" to lose your tooth at school. Nevermind that your mother misses one of the biggest moments in your six years of life! His teacher saw it, his class saw it, and it even scored him a trip to see the school nurse who he adores. She gave him the little plastic tooth to keep it in and promised him a spot on her "tooth wall." He thinks it is great in spite of the fact that he doesn't even know what a tooth wall is. I mean...who wouldn't want to be on a tooth wall?

Kinsley, a precious girl in his class, told him that the tooth fairy will give you $10 for the first tooth. Okay, on the one hand, I feel forever indebted to Kinsley. Walker was thinking that his first tooth might be worth $100 in good condition. Are you kidding me? All of his teeth are in good condition - he's like a mini dentist! Back to my other hand on Kinsley....$10?! This is highway robbery. Well, $10 it was (what a generous fairy - more like a pushover, I should say.) And, as promised, that fairy dipped her wings in the water he left on the bedside table turning it the most magical shade of blue.

Since that time, we've lost another tooth. And yes, you guessed it...Kinsley strikes again! Surely we cannot keep up the pace at the new "after the first tooth" rate of $5. I believe I'm going to have to start sending Kinsley a bill!

Poor William. Can you tell he's been crying? He said it was the "unluckiest" day of his life. He is ready to lose a tooth now. I think the tooth fairy needs to look into getting a loan before his teeth start falling out! Enjoy your weekend!

Green Swap

I decided recently to participate in my first ever blog swap. This is where you are paired up with another blogger and swap things based on a certain theme. Brandy was hosting the swap and organized all of the swap partners. Boy, did I get the great end of the stick! My swap partner was Liberty. Liberty is quite a talented (and generous, I might add) woman with four children. How she finds the time to be creative is beyond me! Anyway, I was beside myself to find my swap package on my back doorstep. I wanted to give you all a peek into what was inside. Keep in mind that the theme of the swap was "green." Green could be either the color green or save the planet kind of green. Liberty was so creative in incorporating both!

My package consisted of two adorable reusable shopping totes (I'm big on those!), a beautiful box of teas, a handmade bath fizzie, cucumber eye pads, Burts Bees products, a bamboo/silicone spatula and personalized labels printed by Liberty. Also, she's quite the crafty one with a sewing/embroidery machine (which I have shared with you all is just not my thing.) She made the t-shirt you see me modeling above. Is that not adorable?! I also love to cook and entertain, so she fixed me up with these wonderful "green" cloth napkins embroidered with my last initial - fantastic!

Liberty has a shop on Etsy, and you can find her on facebook. You really need to take a look at her things - perfect ideas for Christmas! Liberty, thanks so much for an incredible box of goodies! I really lucked out in getting you as my partner. Can't wait to place some gift orders!!

A letter to the tooth fairy

Dear Tooth Fairy,

Oh, how we have waited for the day you would visit our house! Honestly, we thought you'd never come. And while we're not due a visit quite yet, I just know you are right around the corner. Am I ready for a "snaggle tooth" little guy? The thought of it really brings me to tears, as we are rounding yet another corner in life and in growing up. I can tell you that he is ready, though. I begged him not to eat an apple at school today. I want to witness the first lost tooth - not his teacher before his mother! So, while he thinks that his first tooth should be worth $100, I simply don't agree. But please be generous to my little man when his time comes because he has waited ever so patiently. It stinks to be among the last in your class to lose a tooth, you know? We'll send up the flag when "it" happens, so get those wings ready. Oh...and we want your wings dipped in water to change the color and everything, okay?

a leaky faucet

Things like leaky faucets happen only when my husband is on plane headed out of town for several days. So, of course, Monday was that day for us. Fortunately, there are great plumbers in our area. They came out when they said they would, and even on the same day I called. Rather than a leak in the pipes (which they could have fixed that day), it had to be a leak in the faucet itself. Thank goodness for friends in high places (you're the best, Teresa!) I called Teresa who picked out a faucet WITH me over the phone while both looking online, and she had it on a truck at her office by lunch the next day. I'm back in business as of yesterday afternoon (yep, that's my new faucet), and I even get my husband home today. Too bad he missed all of the excitement! And speaking of excitement...

Meet Earl! No, he didn't come with our new faucet; however, Earl lives on the property behind Teresa's office. Of course she was taking William out for a visit and the chance to feed the donkeys and goats.

This is William feeding the momma goat. He said over and over again, "I just don't know about this." Thanks, Teresa, for an adventure in the world of leaky faucets and feeding the animals. What four-year old little boys wouldn't be all about that?!

We miss Walker when he is at school; however, Wills and I enjoy our time together - time that is just about us. Preschool will be starting soon, and I'm going to miss lazy summer mornings being entertained by my little man. This morning I asked him if he would just plan to live with me forever. He replied, "Mommy, super heroes don't live with their mommys and daddys. You just don't even like to think about me being a grown-up!" He is right. When I'm enjoying every second of him being 4, a grown-up super hero is just too much for me to comprehend. So, for now, I'm simply going to enjoy each and every day that he lives under our roof. He'll be wearing a cape and saving the world before I know it!

It seems as if I'm always apologizing for my lack of posts. At the same time, at least in my head, I seem to have a wonderful excuse. Yesterday was the big day. Sending my little man back to school after a wonderful summer. The day came with mixed emotions (on my part); however, in the end, he was exactly where he wanted to be and where he felt so comfortable. What grade, do you ask?

We have recently returned from an amazing trip to Fripp Island with some fantastic friends. It was great to have an end of the summer vacation, but it is so hard for me to believe that my oldest starts first grade on Thursday. This week will be filled with getting ready, open house, starting back and me catching up on tons of jewelry orders. Thanks so much to everyone who has placed and order!! I know I've mentioned "my friend" Brandy to you before. Okay, so we're not really friends, but I am certain we would be had we ever officially met. I have met a very sweet and talented person through the world of blogging. At this point in time, she is giving back like nothing I've ever seen. When, through her blog, she offered the option to be a part of a silent auction at the end of this month, I jumped at the chance. You see, her dear friend's son was diagnosed with a brain disease called adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) in March of this year. Riley, who is the same age as my oldest (6), and his parents are away from the comforts of home while at Duke University Hospital. Riley is there to receive bone marrow transplants. As those of you who read my blog well know, my boys are the "stars" in my life. With that in mind, I've designed a new piece. Let me introduce you to it...

The base of this necklace is a 3/4" square stamped with two names and a star soldered on top. The necklace comes with a freshwater pearl dangle and will be strung on your choice of a 16" or 18" chain. The boys spent Friday night with Bibbie and Poppy (my parents) in Washington. They had a ball. Poppy grilled his famous hotdogs - Walker is convinced no one makes hot dogs like Poppy.

To finish off the perfect meal, they made s'mores. Who doesn't love s'mores? Fireworks on the square, a walk home afterwards, camping out on the floor with Bibbie - the makings of a perfect summer night. Walker took my camera to document the visit, and these are some of the photos he took.

We spent the 4th in Atlanta with our dear friends. We visited with them before taking MARTA to Lenox. Burke's Atlanta office is next to Lenox Mall, and his firm has a 4th of July celebration complete with a catered dinner and the best fireworks view I've ever seen. We were practically on top of the fireworks as they were set off - amazing! Again, Walker was in charge of photography...

When I was sick in the bed last week, barely able to move my bones, Burke was so sweet to come home from work to see about the boys. He admitted to me later that he thought they might burn the house down while I slept. Considering they came in every five minutes to wake me and ask permission for everything, I am quite certain they would have done the same before conspiring to strike the match. During one of my many long naps, Burke took the boys out. I remember them telling me they were leaving. Several hours later, the boys came running into the house. "Mommy, mommy! Daddy bought you a surprise!," they exclaimed. As bad as I felt, I managed to drag myself out of the bed thinking surely a surprise would make me feel better. That works for you, doesn't it? I walked to the back door to find this little number...

Burke was so proud of his purchase for me. You see, now I would be able to cut the new grass in the back yard. I was looking around for the flowers that might accompany such a gift for your sick wife, but could not find them anywhere. Oh well. It is definitely not the shiny new retro bike I have been envisioning for myself, but I will have a manicured lawn and some serious exercise to boot.

Along the same lines of shiny and new, you must see one of the pieces I made for a friend of mine who has two little girls - true princesses. She ordered necklaces and matching earrings, and here is one of the necklaces...

We had so much to celebrate yesterday. Our little guy turned 4, and it was, of course, Father's Day. We spent the afternoon picnicking and hiking in the mountains - perfect for the guys in my life. Now that I think about it, it was perfect for me, too! I am thankful for two of the sweetest boys on earth and for the most wonderful father to those boys. It is no surprise they have turned out to be the young men they are with the example they've had.

There is something new in the yard that is literally consuming all of our time! As a matter of fact, this is what we emailed to my husband last Tuesday while he was at work. Mean, you think? No, we just really wanted him home to enjoy the afternoon with us!

I'll post more pictures soon. We have had swimming lessons for the boys every day last week and have one more week to go. On top of that, there is no water coming out of any faucet in our house - I mean NONE...brings back awful memories of the snowstorm this year! Fortunately, help is on the way and should be here soon. For those of you who might be extremely perceptive, I decided to sneak in a preview of a new lowercase font. Did any of you notice? Well, that preview was a couple of weeks ago, but now I am stamping like CRAZY with these great new letters. So when you place an order, you will now have a choice of font. Please keep in mind that one font might not work for a particular piece, but we can discuss that on an individual basis.

I received a call before vacation (which was fantastic, by the way!) from someone requesting three necklaces. One piece would be for her and one for each of her two sisters. She allowed me to be creative and come up with three different pieces. And of course I used the new font! Take a look at what I mailed to her...

milestones

Last August, we sent our first born into the unknown - unknown for all of us really, as we had never sent a child to be in the care of anyone other than us. We had lived with the little guy for five years at that point, so we felt pretty comfortable that we knew all the "ins and outs" of him. But would there be anyone there that could do the same? Would he make new friends? Would he remember his code to buy lunch or could he possibly starve for lack of memorizing the last four digits of his SSN?! This picture is taken his first day of Kindergarten. It's funny...I really don't know who looks the most concerned about the events that would be in store, but I'm kind of leaning towards his little brother! As it turns out, I'm about to pick up that same little guy from his last day of Kindergarten. It is almost harder for me to pick him up the last day than it was to drop him off for his first. Because, you know what? He had the most amazing teacher and parapro on the face of the earth, and they know his "ins and outs" as well as we do. He made the cutest and sweetest friends that I am certain he will miss like crazy this summer when he doesn't see them every day. And, not one day did he forget his code and miss lunch! Somewhere over the course of the last nine months, my baby turned into a young man who can handle himself when his parents are not around. As a matter of fact, he was presented the citizenship award at his Kindergarten celebration night. That stands for something, right? I guess, along with the amazing help of the wonderful people at Ila Elementary, we all survived Kindergarten.

So with that in mind, we are taking a vacation! I'll be away from jewelry and blogging for a week, but please check in with me the first week of June. I'm going to be refreshed and ready to make new things. And for those of you that placed orders the end of this week, I promise they will be done as soon as I return. Yes, Walker is at it again. He has been needling me to help him make more jewelry ever since he received orders in his very own crazy robot series. My mother ordered hers first, so that is the one pictured. He designs these robots himself. And while I try to put my two cents in, he always shoots me down and goes with his original idea. And you know what? His idea turns out better than anything I had in mind. So, I am unveiling the second design in this series. Walker has one very proud Bibbie. And yes, Miss Teresa, yours is coming!

Dear friends of ours have a daughter graduating from high school Saturday. She was given monogram earrings for Christmas, and I decided to match a necklace to the earrings for her graduation gift. So, the oldie but goodie monogram necklace is not retired, but there is a new one so you will now have a choice! I will try to post some updated pieces over the next few days. I have been awful about that recently. I guess I'm just plugging away until summer!

my baby turned 6!

It really irritates my husband when I call Walker baby in public. For instance, I might say it while he is playing soccer or t-ball. Burke quickly reminds me in the quiet tone that he tends to use that Walker is no longer a baby. Each time I remind him that I gave birth to the little guy and he will always be my baby. Thursday was "my baby's" sixth birthday and he celebrated the milestone exactly as he would have liked. He is not my take cupcakes to school guy. He specifically requested Krispy Kreme doughnuts to share with his class. It was also field day at school on his birthday, and what kid does not love field day? I still remember defending my title as the jump rope champ in elementary school. He chose his favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner because you can wear a sombrero on your big day. He wanted nothing more than tickets to the UGA baseball game, so we spent the day at Foley Field yesterday. He ended up with a practice ball, a nearly $4 sprite (can you believe that?!), an exciting win for UGA in the bottom of the 9th and a wonderful night of sleep due to exhaustion from all of the excitement. Life at six is super cool! As he told me on the morning of his birthday, "I don't feel any older, I just feel taller." Give it a few years, baby, give it a few years! And Walker, I promise...I love you more than you love me!!!

Yep. I'd say we were officially there. There is no turning back now. Am I anxious and overwhelmed that there is a tremendous hole in our back yard? Who me? Surely you wouldn't think that! Okay...maybe a little.

Looks refreshing doesn't it? I know you must be ready to dive right in. Well, talk to me in about a week. I am sure my perspective will be quite different.

If you can see the boys in the background, I am sure you can imagine how interesting baths can be after playing in the Georgia clay. We practically had to hose them down outside.

Our Saturday was spent at the rec. department - along with what seemed like thousands of other people. I cannot imagine a better way to spend the day...a t-ball game, visits with old and new friends and a trip to the "confession stand" (at least that is what my boys call the concession stand.) What they are planning on confessing is beyond me. Looks like that is where we'll be having dinner tonight, too. Go Indians!

And, while he is not old enough for t-ball quite yet, my future base-runner is pretty darn cute! Hope your week is off to a fantastic start!

My five-year old has been after me for quite some time to help him design a piece of jewelry that he could give to me. When he came home today asking to do his homework right away so that he could stamp something, it was awfully hard for me to say no. After all, he made three 100s on various tests at school today. So, not only is he smart...but he's talented, too! (I can say these things since I'm his mother!) Let me introduce to you Walker's very own crazy robot design! This time seven years ago, I was anxiously anticipating my high noon walk down the aisle to the most amazing man. And seven years later, I'm anxiously anticipating the arrival of the Sears repairman so that I will not have to hand wash my dishes much longer! Honestly, I had planned to make this blog post full of love for my husband, but who says I cannot love a working dishwasher, too?!

So, yes, it is our 7th anniversary. If by any chance my husband would actually read my blog (doubting it!), I would like to tell him how much I love him and that I'm the luckiest girl in the world! I determined one thing over the last couple of days...I'm no pioneer woman. After a stomach virus swept through our house last week, we were greeted with the most beautiful snow I've ever seen. If it had stopped there, I would have been in snow heaven; however, the power went out Sunday afternoon and did not return until yesterday. Now, I get really cold really easily. I love a hot shower. I love a cozy bed. And I love most everything associated with a beautiful snow - building snowmen, throwing snowballs, roasting marshmallows over a roaring fire, hot chocolate, etc. For two days I brushed my teeth with snow melted by the fire and slept with the entire family in one bed to stay warm. Okay...that is just not fun for me. When you came in from playing in the cold snow, you were greeted by the cold house. Thank goodness my husband is the master at keeping a fire going. I was seriously thinking about checking into a warm and comfy hotel, but I'm married to an outdoor man who loves camping and testing the elements. At least he had the clothes for it (that he generously let me borrow,) and that camp stove of his saved us from going hungry. Here are some pictures from our trip back in time.

Sorry for the lack of posting this past week. After we got Walker over strep throat, we moved on to William's stomach virus. Needless to say, we were all glad to see the pretty weather this weekend - sunshine does wonders for killing those nasty germs and making us all feel much, much better. As a matter of fact, I'm going to try to make this a quick post since today is gorgeous as well!

My sister's birthday was yesterday. We spent the day with her and her family as well as my parents at Paris Mountain - perfect day!!! My dad grilled some "mean" burgers, the cousins enjoyed some play time and we all soaked up the beautiful day. We discovered something new that could quite possibly become some crazy obsession - letterboxing. We had never heard of it, but my sister had done the research. Basically, it is like a scavenger hunt for all ages. And best of all, these hidden boxes are everywhere! I love a good cupcake. I love to make them as much (maybe even more!) as I love to eat them. As I was going back through some old photos, I found this one...

This picture was taken as I preparing for a bridal luncheon for my wonderful friend, Stacy. Three years later, she is a wonderful mother to a beautiful baby girl. But, as Valentine's Day approaches, I thought that I just might need to make these again. They are too cute! The coconut cupcakes were perfect for the occasion, and I threw in the meringue hearts just for fun. So, they look quite cute, but they taste decadent as well...wonderful combination!

Well, we have not begun digging for a pool, but I did book our trip to the beach yesterday! I am not a fan of cold (I mean really COLD) weather. Today is not a preschool day, and Burke took Walker to school this morning. So, I am home snuggled in with William and thinking about the beach. Just looking at these pictures makes me ready to go! There is no denying it...I gave birth to two little fish. They love the water. Always have. We are now contemplating what is quite possibly the inevitable. What is it about making a decision like this when it is going to be down to 18 degrees here this week? I tell you what it is...I'm over winter already, and pool companies are available right now. Sounds like a great fit to me! On a completely different note, I'm going to be coming up with some new designs very soon. I am now the proud owner of a torch. So, look out - there is soldering in my future! Also, I am going to have a some fun giveaways in the very near future from me as well as from some guest creators. So, it is always worth checking in. More surprises from Christmas!

Sorry it has taken me a few days to post more pictures of Christmas orders I made. We celebrated the new year with friends, I had a date night with my husband and we spent the entire afternoon in the emergency room yesterday. So, needless to say, we have started 2009 off with a bang! What is it about little boys and trips to the emergency room? My youngest fell off of the beanbag tower he was creating (what is harmless about a beanbag, right?) and hit his head on what has always appeared to me as a very harmless kid's chair. Well, he must have hit it just right to create that 3/4" hole, and I do mean hole, in his head. After 3 1/2 hours in the emergency room, the kind doctor had William's head super-glued back together. Yes, I said super glue! We wrapped him up like a burrito so he could not squirm, and they put layer upon layer of super glue on his head while I blew on it to make the glue dry. Since William was comfortable with daddy, Burke cleaned the wound with the doctor's "special soap," and I blew the glue dry. Do you think we'll get any discount for our participation in putting William back together again?

is finally undecorated (not the easiest task in the whole world!) I always dread the process of taking the tree out, but look forward to a clean slate for a new year. Minus the one strand of lights that went out during the season, this was one of my favorite trees. I must say that every year! The one strand of lights stressed me out a bit, but once all of those glass ornaments are hung safely on the branches, there is no going back in! Purchase all new lights for next year - check.

And, these guys are FINALLY starting to settle down a bit!

Well, some of you were surprised with my jewelry under your tree Christmas morning. I cannot begin to tell you how exciting it was to make these pieces and know they would be wrapped and opened by unsuspecting recipients! I spent part of Christmas day wondering what the reactions would be. While I only took pictures of some of the pieces I had made (many I was just trying to get out of the door in time!), I could not share any of them with you until presents had been opened. Sorry it has taken me so long! I actually had the winner selected Friday, but have just found the time to post the news. I saw Sonya Saturday, so she is already wearing her "Peace" necklace. It looks fantastic on her, and I hope she enjoys it. As for what the remainder of my week holds...probably not a whole lot of blogging! I am fast and furiously finishing up Christmas gifts. the holiday rush

Okay...I'm usually much better (at least a little better) about posting than I have been. Thanksgiving was fantastic, but amazingly busy. We had a wonderful time with my parents and friends in Washington. When we returned home, I had to get the house decorated for the Christmas photo shoot Burke was doing Saturday. Since that time, I've culled through tons of pictures to get proofs to clients in time for Christmas card processing. All of the people we photographed were so beautiful, so narrowing down the pictures was not the easiest part of the job - yet it is MY part of the job! On Sunday afternoon I noticed that our beloved golden retriever, Broker, was acting quite ill. After we returned from Bible study that evening, he was really awful. Walker had a migraine, and Broker was sick - not a fun house that night. Needless to say, we didn't sleep a wink. Broker was tested for many things (cancer was the scariest for us since we lost his sister to cancer 5 years ago.) As it turns out, they think he simply had a bacterial infection and needed fluids and antibiotics. The boys and I are heading out this afternoon to pick him up. We are all so ready for him to be home and underfoot again! So.....with all of that, this is my first post in quite a while.

pumpkin pie

Yes, there is one of those in the oven. I am baking a pie to take to the elementary school today. Walker's kindergarten class is having their Thanksgiving feast, and I'm delivering the pie. After we leave school, we're making a quick pit stop at our house before heading to my parent's house for a spend-the-night party. The boys are so excited they could POP! There is candlelight shopping downtown, and we are meeting some dear friends for dinner and an evening of quaint shopping. You never know...we may even happen upon Santa!

As I've said before, Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday for me. I know you've seen this necklace before (very recently since it was the November giveaway!); however, it really sums up what I'm feeling as Thanksgiving day approaches. This particular necklace is a little different than the giveaway piece because it has a white coin pearl in the middle. Anyway...don't forget to count your blessings!

I have had the best couple of days. William's preschool Thanksgiving program/feast was yesterday, and it is my all-time favorite preschool event. It is filled with family, friends, great food and adorable children who did exactly what they were supposed to do on stage. Walker really wanted to be there, so his teacher said that it would be fine to leave school to attend. He seemed quite proud of his brother, and that made me very happy. I know they adore one another, but sometimes the bickering can get the best of me. Yesterday was not one of those days - they were great, and Walker was very supportive of his little brother. Today was Walker's day. They were studying the letter "P" at school today, so the entire kindergarten got to wear their pajamas to school. Walker thought that was the greatest thing ever. Even better than that (for me anyway) was that William and I got to join him for the holiday lunch at school. Walker seemed to enjoy showing William the ropes. We then headed to the high school to deliver a new piece I had been working on. It is funny...I always get a little nervous when I deliver a piece to someone who has never ordered - will they love it, hate it, wish they had gone with something different? Well, this reaction made my day! She was perfectly thrilled. The picture below will give you a little peek.

This is yet another piece that I would eventually like to make for myself. In the meantime, an order for another one of these came in today...looks like mine will have to wait!

the holidays are upon us

I really have no reason for showing you this necklace except that I thought it turned out pretty cute. This is a piece I took to the local art show, and it sold right off the bat! Since so much of what I do is personalized, it was really difficult for me to come up with things that people could simply walk up and buy. I like the way it turned out, and you know I'd be more than happy to reproduce it for you should you want one! If nothing else it will give you more ideas of what is available/possible in the world of hand-stamped sterling jewelry.

Now, my friend Wendi over at http://alphabetsoupembroidery.com/ contacted me yesterday about the possibility of hosting a Christmas open house. Now, I must tell you that in one respect the idea terrified me. After all, my house needs a serious cleaning and then decorating. On the other hand, I already had the very same idea and had not mentioned it to her. Anyway, we batted around different ideas - participants, date, time, etc. - and it looks like we can make this happen. Now, my husband is having a Christmas photography special at our house the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so the house will have to be decorated anyway. We always get our tree the Friday after Thanksgiving, so 24 hours should be just fine, right? Nothing like having people over to your house to light a fire under you! I am out of school next week, so it should help to have some days at home. Anyway, if you're in the area and happen to hear from me or Wendi about the open house, I hope you'll join us! It would be a great time to wrap up (or start, in my case!) your Christmas shopping. I'll post more details about that later.

Thanksgiving is one of my all-time favorite holidays. I enjoy it because it is all about being thankful and surrounding yourself with those you love. This time of year more than any, I consciously take the time to reflect on how blessed I truly am. I do not get wrapped up in gift-giving or decorating - simply being thankful. (My mom's incredible turkey and dressing dinner doesn't hurt either!) This year, I am so very thankful for a growing business that allows me to be creative and touch people's lives in a really neat way. A friend of mine has a granddaughter who, at the age of 13 months, was diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric cancer. I have followed the remarkable journey of this child since first hearing the news of her cancer. She went into remission after a series of tough surgery and treatment. In August of 2007, they faced the news that her cancer had come back. This precious little girl turned four in August and after a rough serious of tests in New York last week, she is showing no evidence of disease!!! I have never met this little girl, and I've also never met her mother. Her mother and I are around the same age, and I find myself constantly amazed by her faith, her grace, her strength and the ability to keep everything going when most people would feel like everything is falling apart. Needless to say, I hold my children closer to me everyday because of the story of this family. While the boys have sent the child a little care package last Christmas, I felt inspired to send a piece of my work to her mother. She also ran the New York City marathon a week and a half ago to raise money for pediatric cancer research. She raised over $13,000!!! This necklace shown in the picture above is heading her way. Gold is the color of the remembrance ribbon for pediatric cancer, and the piece simply reads "hope." They will never know how much I am "hoping" for them! I "hope" each of you will hold your children close to you this day and everyday we are blessed to have them.

Sorry I have been out of touch for the last week. I worked so hard getting ready for the art show Saturday that I could hardly complete sentences when it was over! I forget from year to year how exhausting that event is for me. I apologize for no pictures on this post as well. Who wants a post with no pictures? It has taken me a while, but here is a picture of my skeleton and my "better-batter baseball man" (as William refers to himself.) They had a grand time as they celebrated Halloween, and I am certain they will not need anymore candy between now and next October 31 (note to Santa, Cupid and the Easter Bunny!) While we are making notes to Santa, I need to let him know that this elf is quite busy holding up her end of then deal when it comes to jewelry. I am also working on some great things that I look forward to sharing with you over the coming weeks. One of the pieces is a complete surprise for a total stranger. How fun is that?! Given what she goes through on a daily basis, I find her to be completely amazing. I'll probably have it finished and ready to show you all next week. I'll share her story with you as well...prepare to be humbled and inspired!!! As I mentioned in a previous post, we have the art show in town this weekend. boys night out

Yes, the boys have embarked on their first "real" camping trip to the mountains, tent and all. They left with daddy this morning and will return tomorrow. Not since before Walker was born have I had the house to myself overnight. I am so looking forward to it! If only I can get some cleaning and laundry done, I will be excited and consider it a success. I spent the day running errands, so I have quite a bit of ground to cover tonight. But, it is amazing what you can accomplish without two little ones (and one big one!) under your feet all day. I'll miss the guys, but this was exactly what we all needed. Of course, I will be interested to see if they are really returning tomorrow. When they left, they had enough packed for about four weeks! I, of course, took pictures to remember the occasion, so I'll share some of those next week.

I have been working on some recent orders. This was a necklace that was purchased for a birthday gift. I thought it safe to show since it was just one initial - just a different take on the full monogram. This person is also a little more natural. So, for interest, we went with the copper freshwater pearl dangle. I have much more to do, and would love to get some of it done in the next 24 quiet hours! My friend Laura and I organize an annual art show in the county. We are so fortunate to have so many talented artists who live right here around us. It is coming up next Saturday, November 8th. So, if you are in the area, it would be worth stopping by! We will have approximately 40 artists representing all different types of art. While most of my work is custom, I would love to have a few pieces to show and to sell that day. So, I need to get moving on that...the clock is ticking. So much to do - so little time.

I'll plan to post some camping pictures next week as well as pictures from Halloween. Let me just say that William won the costume contest at church for his age group, and it had nothing to do with the costume! He was dressed as a baseball player (with built in muscles.) The dialogue went a little something like this...

William: Mommy, am I going to win the contest?

Me: I don't know, honey. You are really going to have to sell it. Just work the crowd.

William: Okay mommy. I'm going to try my very best.

Well, let me just say that he put on quite a show. He marched up on stage and started flexing his "muscles" and tapping his cleats on the stage. When he felt like the attention was going some other way, he would quickly step out front and give another flex. It was definitely all in the attitude. When he returned to his seat he said, "I cannot believe I won!" My dad confided in me later that he knew the die was cast before William ever made his way to the stage. What a clown that little one is!

teacher workday...

As a preschool art teacher, I have come to really appreciate those words. Well, today is one of those days. William and I are home from school. And while it is a break from being at the preschool, I have no short list of things to do. Quite honestly, fitting in getting a shower on my days home gets tricky. Tonight is trunk or treat at the church, and I have agreed to make a couple dozen cupcakes for the cupcake walk. So, that certainly must get done. I need to get about 100 bags of candy ready for the evening as well. I also got a new shipment of silver in yesterday, so I have to get to work fulfilling orders that have come in the last several days. So many people are on the ball with Christmas. Are you one of those people? Speaking of one of those people, I have included a picture of one of the new pins I am making. I am certain this gift will be a huge hit this Christmas. The recipient of the gift is a grandmother in another state, and she does not know about my blog. So, you all will get to see her Christmas present before she does! I absolutely LOVE the way this pin turned out. Anywhere from two to five children is really perfect for this piece. And, it is also nice for people who would not wear a piece like the charm bracelet. As shown, this pin is $46. The discs are 1/2" sterling on a sterling silver 2 1/2" pin. Those with mothers/mother-in-laws who adore their grandchildren should really consider this gift this Christmas!

lost in my to-do list...

I am ashamed and embarassed to see that it has been a week since I last posted. Last week was crazy, though. We finished soccer season. I went on a field trip with Walker's Kindergarten class - had to be one of the funniest experiences of my life! I completed Halloween craft projects for preschool, which consisted of cutting out 46 handprints and bat bodies. And of course, I had to throw in some jewelry stamping. Oh...and I assisted Burke with two photo shoots. So, needless to say, this girl needed a blogging break! One of the photo shoots we did was of my nephew. I know I have gotten to show off my niece here before, but I had to share with you a couple of pictures of my nephew - too cute! All of our boys enjoyed spending the day together. We really don't do that enough. Eventually, and I know I've said this before, I am going to get Burke's photography blog up and going. As of now, I'm stealing his photos to use on my blog! I do have plenty more of his work I need to show off, so maybe that will be a goal for this week. Nothing wrong with aiming high, right?!

I would love to show you all some of the jewelry I've been working on, but a good part of it will have to wait until after Christmas. One of the pieces is for my sister's mother-in-law. She is not aware of my blog, so I can share that piece in the next couple of days. It is a new, nice way for grandmothers to show off their grandchildren. And what grandmother doesn't like to do that?!

I hope this week will be a good one for all of you. With Halloween approaching, I might want to shorten my to-do list. My boys and sugar don't lead to very productive days ahead!

This piece is a sterling silver teardrop-shaped pendant that is hand-stamped, oxidized, then polished to a beautiful finish. A bronze coin pearl hangs in the middle, and the pendant hangs on a 1mm brown leather cord with a sterling silver clasp.

..especially when turned on the angle, monogram-med and added to a keychain! I am l.o.v.i.n.g this new look. Someone ordered a couple of these to give as gifts when they saw the monogrammed necklace I did a couple of weeks ago. I like the idea that you can use these stamped pieces in many different ways. I'm ready to make these squares into monogrammed earrings now - any takers?! I did some work to my next giveaway piece last night and hope to finish it up this evening - sometime between homework, cooking dinner and a soccer game. Anyway, once it is done, I hope you'll love it as much as I do!

Good morning! From time to time, I'd like to share with you all the work of others that I find to be quite fun. Over the weekend, I picked up some baby gifts I had ordered from my friend, Wendi, that does the cutest embroidery work. I selected burp cloths and onesies, and she has a fantastic selection at her website, http://alphabetsoupembroidery.com/. As you can tell from my jewelry, I love all things personalized, and Wendi has the greatest things for everyone - from babies, to teachers, and just about everyone else! She put Walker's name on his backpack this year and made him the cutest lunch bag with his name and a soccer ball. She also added my name to an a.dor.a.ble tennis racquet cover my sister and her family gave me for Christmas. Be sure to check out Wendi's website when planning your Christmas gift list!

Sorry I have not posted anything in several days. It is certainly not because I haven't been stamping. The boys were upstairs last night attempting to go to bed. For those of you who haven't heard me work, you must understand that most anyone could not sleep through such a noise! I have been working on some pretty terrific things this week and hope to get some pictures posted next week. Some photos will have to wait, as they were ordered as gifts for individuals who might actually check my blog. We don't want to ruin any surprises! Who knows, maybe you will be the lucky one! Weekends are wonderful, aren't they? My favorite weekends are those in the fall. We have begun pulling out the Fall/Halloween decorations for our home, and I definitely have Fall fever! The geese are returning to our pond for the winter, and that is one of our favorite parts of the season. We hear them arriving each evening and leaving each morning.

I wanted to show you all a piece I made this weekend. A friend of mine has purchased this necklace to give as a gift. It is a 3/4" sterling silver washer with a freshwater pearl dangle in the middle. These washers really are so much fun and are so versatile as well. I have them in several sizes to accommodate any words, names or phrases you may choose to stamp. This is also another nice option for a mother. You could stamp the names of her children - one name each on the smaller washers or multiple names on the larger washer. The possibilities are endless, and each piece is custom designed for you! I hope the recipient of this piece will be thrilled when she opens it.

I know I usually post about jewelry or our boys, but today is a bit unusual. I wanted to share with you my recent adventure in cooking. Now, for those of you who know me, I L-O-V-E to cook. I have had a pork roast in the crock pot since 8:00 this morning - smelling quite tasty to say the least. I took it out just moments ago to pull off the fat (disgusting, right?), and because we live in the middle of a farm had planned to pour the fat, grease and bone out into the pasture. Because we have a 90 lb. golden retriever that would not mind in the least digging under the fence to retrieve such a "delectable treat," I knew I needed to get it pretty far over the fence. Well, of course with the weight of the pot and the angle at which I needed to dump it, I dropped it! Now, the farm is cross-fenced for the cows. So, I had to walk about a mile (a slight exaggeration) to retrieve my pot. I had to walk this far because the fences are electric and climbing them is not an option for me when there is electricity involved. Needless to say, I encountered a few of these large creatures along the way (photo compliments of my husband - don't you just love how his tongue is up his nostril!) as well as the nastiness they leave in their wake. For my "city friends"... welcome to my world!!! With the help of my 5-year old, we are finally back in - with a newly cleaned pot - and have the most tender barbeque simmering away in sauce. We'll dig in after soccer practice. Bon Appétit!

Where did the weekend go?

This seems to be a constant state of affairs for me, as I am sure it is for many of you reading this - where did Saturday and Sunday go? My husband was away at a men's retreat this weekend, so the boys and I were flying solo. We tend to eat way too much junk food, and I stay up much too late when he is gone. I was doing some reading and working on some art projects for this week at preschool, so I managed to get a ton of that sort of thing done. We were also treated to a wonderful evening at the home of my friend Amy, whose husband was at the same retreat as Burke. She has three very fun and entertaining children, so the boys had a terrific time. They played outside, had game and art stations set up and prepared the most wonderful meal. We finished the night with a movie before heading home. Amy and I had originally planned to go out to eat and to see a movie, but finding a sitter for five children is not necessarily the easiest task in the world. As it turned out, I think I was far more entertained by the evening at their house!

I also worked on several jewelry projects - orders that came in since the giveaway. I am having so much fun with these projects! I have posted a picture of the necklace I made for my Amanda to give to her sister. Today is her birthday, and I have already heard that she has it and loves it! I think it turned out really neat, and I hope it will give you all an idea of other designs we can create. I really liked this one so much that I plan to make one for myself...again, when I can find the time! This necklace would be perfect for most anyone, but could be a fun gift for someone who is newly married. The nice thing about this piece is its' size. The squares, which I have turned on the angle, are 1/2" in size. They would also make amazing earrings!

I am now off to bake dozens upon dozens of cookies in the shape of a "C." Cortney's wedding is this weekend, and I have offered to bake cookies for favors. Her new last name will also start with a "C", so maybe Cortney needs some new monogrammed earrings! Okay, okay...I'll save that project for another day. I hope this week is terrific for all of you. Let me start by saying that I am overwhelmed by all of the comments regarding the earring giveaway. You all are amazing! I had so much fun checking my blog from time to time to see who had visited. I heard from old friends, new friends, friends of friends as well as people I've never met. As I said...AMAZING!

Now when I woke up this morning, I was actually a little nervous about selecting a winner. I know that sounds funny, but I really wanted everyone to win. So, I put the weight of the world on my 3-year old. Yes, William selected the winner. So, you cannot hold anything against a 3-year old, right?! We even documented the drawing on camera. The name of everyone who commented was written once on a small piece of paper, then folded and placed in a bowl. How old fashioned it that? I know you can do these random integer selections online, but I chose to do it the old fashioned way. So, I know what you are thinking...who is the winner already?!

In case you can't see it, the winner is GINNI! Yes, my little birdies are flying all the way to Comer, GA. That is too funny. Ginni and I live probably 15 minutes from one another. I mean, these birds could have traveled all the way across the country, and they are going across the county! Ginni is a wonderful person and friend, and I think these earrings will be absolutely perfect for her. Congratulations Ginni!!! As I said before, I really wish everyone could win. So, I have decided that everyone can at least win a little something. So, for everyone who commented, I will take 10% your first piece of jewelry (that includes keychains) between now and December 31, 2008. Start making those Christmas lists now!!! Ladies, this could also be a great time to put a little bug in your husband's ear!

I have already completed my first piece that resulted from this giveaway. I am sending my friend, Amanda, a necklace in the mail today. And yes, she is getting the discount! It is a gift for her sister's birthday. I am hoping it will be a huge hit. I will post pictures of the necklace in the next couple of days in order to give you all other design ideas and options. Some of you asked about pricing when making your comments. Typically each piece is a custom piece, therefore prices will vary. Earrings run between $15 and $20, and necklaces can range from about $35 - $55. Of course, all of the prices depend upon the amount of sterling that goes into it.
